It was a bright and
sunny morning. Birds were chirping and the whole neighborhood was stirring from
the rest of night. The mailman arrives to a medium sized house with a large
tree in the backyard that could be seen from the front lawn. The mailman
approaches the front door and swiftly pushes some mail through the mail slot
adjacent to the door. One of the envelopes happened to have a mysterious stamp
on the front it, signifying that it was something of great importance. However,
the old mailman thought nothing of it, and simply walked away to continue his
morning commute. Shortly afterwards, a young and playful wolf with a hoodie
vest and green shirt walks up to the house. The wolf’s name is Shintarou
Inugami, one of the younger brothers of 21 year old Kenji Leo. Shintarou, or
Shinji as Kenji would refer to him as, had a plan to pull his usual morning
prank on his big brother…
Shinji: Heheh, oh boy! (lifts up the “Welcome” door mat and
grabs a spare key Kenji kept under it) My big bro just makes this way too easy.
(opens the door) I just hope he knows it’s my way of showing my love.
Shinji makes his way
through the house and slowly creeps into the bedroom, where he sees his big and
muscular bro sleeping in his underpants, snoring loudly and dreaming deeply…
Shinji: (snickers and blushes) Oh man. He must be all
tuckered out from doing all that training last night… The guy works hard, but
he seems to sleep even harder…
Shinji tiptoes toward
the large bed and crouches down to make sure Kenji doesn’t see the young wolf
if he wakes up. Shinji then pounces into the air and lands on the big
werelionkai’s body, pinning Kenji down by putting his paws on his bare chest
and locking his legs with Kenji’s. At that moment, Kenji wakes up with a start
and yells out in shock…
Shinji: Wake up, sleepyhead bro! (smiles and nuzzles Kenji’s
face)
Kenji: What the!? Shinji, how the heck did you get in here
again? (pants)
Shinji: Well duh, you left the spare key under the mat
again. Honestly, I thought you would’ve put it somewhere else this time.
(chuckles)
Kenji: Oh… (strokes his mane and blinks) I would have, but
the minute I got home from training I just felt like crashing on the bed and
sleeping the night away.
Shinji: Awwwwr… my big bro’s feeling all tired and stressed
huh? (ruffles Kenji’s mane and wags his tail) I just want to be there for ya.
That’s what bros are for.
Kenji: Heh, you’re right little bro (strokes Shinji’s head
fur and cheek). So… thanks for that.
Shinji: (gets off of Kenji and lies in the bed) Anytime
Kenji, anytime (winks).
Kenji yawns and gets
out of bed, then goes off to get ready for the day. The big werelionkai takes a
quick hot shower and gathers his clothes for the day. After he dries off and
brushes his teeth, Kenji selects a pair of dark denim jeans, a black V-neck
shirt and a crimson button down with rolled up sleeves. Kenji dons these
clothes and admires himself in the mirror for a few seconds, then heads out to
the kitchen and makes breakfast. Meanwhile, Shinji is anxiously waiting for him
to finish breakfast when he suddenly spots the mysterious envelope in the pile
of mail.
Shinji: Huh? (walks over to the envelope and picks it up)
What’s this?
Kenji: What’s what little brother? (walks into the dining
room with two plates of scrambled eggs, toast and turkey bacon and sets it
down)
Shinji: Oh, I just found some envelope in your mail pile.
Kenji: (hands Shinji his plate) Well, it’s probably some
junk mail.
Shinji: Not likely… (hands Kenji the envelope) It has this
weird little symbol thing on the stamp right there.
Kenji: (frowns a little as he eats his breakfast and
examines the envelope) Hmm… You’re right. It’s probably something really
important. But as for this symbol, my guess is as good as yours. (thinks) Maybe
we should ask one of our other bros what it means when we meet them at our
hangout spot. (puts the envelope in his pocket) I’m sure Salvador, Chandler or
Canas knows about it.
Shinji: (finishes his breakfast) Maybe you’re right. Let’s
head out!
Kenji and Shinji clean
up and make their way the hangout place of their closest friends, a small
forest clearing with a fire pit, a small waterfall, and logs for each of them to sit on. Once the
two brothers get there, they see their brothers Salvador Santana-Castillo,
Chandler Valdes, Canas Nagase, and Jay Cee Scarlet. Salvador approaches them…
Salvador: Hey Kenji! Hey Shinji! (grabs the two and bear
hugs them) We’ve been waiting for you guys! (laughs)
Kenji: Ack! Hey… big bro… Good to see ya!
Shinji: (whines) Could you let us go please? You’re kinda
crushing us…
Salvador: Whoops. (lets them go) Sorry (scratches his head)…
Canas: (giggles) You’d think your spines would get used to
that herculean strength of his.
Chandler: Humorous yet touching moment aside (walks over to
Kenji), what’s up my bro?
Kenji: (cracks his spine) Nothing much… (helps Shinji up)
except I got a letter with a strange symbol this morning…
Shinji: We were wondering what it meant, so we decided to
come to you guys and see if any of you have seen this before.
Canas: Ahhhh, I’m sorry guys. Never seen that symbol in my
damn life (shrugs his shoulders).
Chandler: (tilts his head) Uh, nope. Nothing I’ve ever seen.
Jay: (blushes and looks bashfully) Not a clue.
Kenji: Aw, well this symbol has to mean something important.
I just haven’t seen it in any of the old texts I’ve read…
Salvador: I’ve seen that symbol bro.
Shinji: (looks in shock with Kenji) Y-you have!?
Salvador: Yeah. (grabs the envelope and closely analyzes it)
It appears as though you’ve received a message from a place called Niflheim,
which is a realm from Norse mythology.
Canas: Well that’s odd… What the heck would a Norse symbol
be doing on an envelope?
Chandler: Well if we open it, we might find out. Would you
do the honors Kenji?
Kenji: Okay. Here goes nothing… (opens the envelope)
As all of his brothers
lean in anticipation, Kenji slowly tears open the letter and finds a small grey
tablet in there. He takes it out and sees the same symbol glowing on the blank
white screen of the device…
Shinji: This just keeps getting a little weirder… (scratches
his head)
Suddenly a bright
flash emanates from the tablet and a small, holographic image of a dragon-wolf
hybrid appears in front of Kenji. All of the friends recognize it as their
fellow furry, Draco Nidhoggson and immediately focus on the hologram…
Draco: Dear Kenji, I have some good news for
you. While you might have many questions, this is a pre-recorded message.
Therefore, I can’t hear you and you can’t speak to me directly. Anyway, you my
dear friend, have been chosen to participate in a tournament of my creation.
The tournament is known as Fur Wars, and you will be pitted against tough
fighters from around the world to test your abilities and truly call yourself a
warrior. You will meet with me in Merida, Mexico tomorrow, where the gate to
Niflheim will be opened. You are expected to be there on time, and meet with me
for the interview. Good luck!
